    past perfect x simple past

    Hi there,

    Could you please answer this question?

    Which is the right one?? or both are ok??



    >> Did you hear that Ben was fired last month? He had been working for that important company for more than ten years and he had worked in almost every department.>>

    It is most correct to use the past perfect in both sentences, since all of the "working" happened before the "firing":

    Did you hear that Ben was fired last month? He had worked for that important company for ten years, between 2000 and 2010, and he had worked in almost every department.

    However, many native speakers don't always make this distinction, so you probably wouldn't get corrected for it by anyone but an English teacher!
