in the soup = under the weather

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

What if she declared her real faith in Court, and left them all in the soup!

in the soup = in an awkward position/ like a fish out of water/ like a cat in a strange garret/ under the weather

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.

You are perfectly right. However, 'under the weather' sounds little out of the way.
