I read this paragraph but not sure if my understanding is correct so would like to check with you guys.

"Totlec wisdom, veiled in secrecy, survived as oral knowledge for centuries. Passed on by naguals and their "parties" with instruction taking on the flavor of the teacher and the culture of the region, distinct lineages of thought emerged."

OK, the Toltec wisdom is passed on from one generation to the next by naguals (or teachers) but what I don't understand is the bold phrase. What is it exactly mean? Upto the naguals (or teacher) to tell the stories? What about the culture of the region? Don't think it means it's up to the tellers otherwise their culture can be distorted, right? So confused. Pls help.

Thank you, Beeja
