I came across a term "matrimony".
I am wondering what is the difference between it and "marriage".
Is it strange if you replace the term "marriage" with it?
May I have your clarification?
Thanks a lot!

A marriage refers to the actual relationship (sometimes): Their marriage is over. The marriage is going well so far but they've only been together 6 months!
Having said all of that, you can still say "I went to the church and witnessed their marriage", but you don't say "I witnessed the matrimony".
