***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Good afternoon, Craterus.

(1) Yes, these two words can be confusing. Here are a few examples for you to study:

***** NEITHER

Tom and Joe are friends. Neither can speak French. (Tom can't

speak French, and Joe can't speak French.)

Neither Tom nor Joe can speak French. (Tom can't speak French, and

Joe can't speak French.)

You do not like mushrooms. Neither do I (like mushrooms) = I also do not

like mushrooms.

***** EITHER

Tom cannot speak French. Joe can't speak French, either. =

Joe also cannot speak French.

I have only one ticket to the concert. Either you or Mona can have the

ticket. = You can have the ticket, or Mona can have the ticket.

If you have more questions, please post again. Have a nice day!

thanks for answering but ı still have problem with these conjunction . either is used with negative verbs "why?" it does not need to be used for positive vebs, does it? if not, why?

EITHER, NEITHER
These distributive words are normally used with singular nouns, and are
placed before the noun.
Either and neither can be used with plural nouns.

Either and Neither are concerned with distribution between two things -
either is positive, neither is negative:

Which chair do you want? Either chair will do.
I can stay at either hotel, they are both good
There are two chairs here. You can take either of them.
Neither chair is any good, they're both too small.
Which chair do you want? Neither of them - they're both too small.
