    is this sentence future or present continue and why?:

    his box is getting burned..

    I believe it's not future.
    Future would be:
    His box will get burned.

    It's the present continuous tense, even if the meaning is future, as in: "His box is getting burned tomorrow. He won't be happy about that!"
