    pesonal statement

Can you tell me if the tenses are correctly used? If not, please let me know.

    1. During the economic course( or while taking economic classes?), I was amazed to find out that many things I was taught in the class were things that my father and I had discussed over the years.

    2. During the financial crisis in 2009, I became aware of the effect that economic problems can have on peoples' lives.

The use of tenses is fine. Couple of amendments:

    1) We usually capitalise the name of a subject we're studying, and we always study Economics, not economic.

    2) Apostrophe placement - the lives of people = people's lives.
