Why don't we get to go

    Hello,

What is the difference between these two?

    1. Why don't we get to go to the mailand?
    2. Why don't we go to the mailand?

    Thanks a lot.

    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****

    Hello, Ferdie.

    (1) This is how I see it:

    (a) Why don't we get to go to the mainland?

Everybody else is going to the mainland. Why can't we go?

Why are we so different? Did we do something wrong?

    (b) Why don't we go to the mainland?

Are you looking for some vacation destinations? We have an idea:

    let's go to the mainland.

***** Thank you for your question *****

TheParser has it right. If you "get to" do something, you are allowed to do it, and it is usually something desirable. Children use it often, as they need permission for just about everything! "Why don't we..." is used, along with "Let's..." for suggestions of activities.
