Dear All,
I believe there is mistake here and there for this article, therefore, really need your help to do the needful on it. Your kindness is much appreciated and thank you in advance.
.............................

How reliable your data? Do you calibrate your equipments? These two question might be arise or come along when people start questioning about “reliability”. In the case of non-destructive testing (NDT) field, one step to ensure data or results produced is reliable is by calibrating all its equipments. This procedure is required by national and international standards. Many NDT standards require that a system of periodic calibration and maintenance must exist for any facility that performs nondestructive testing. For instance, American Standard, ASTM E-1212, Section 9.2.2 mentions that all measuring and test equipment shall be calibrated and controlled to ensure accuracy of measurement of products and processes to a specified requirement. However, many institutes and research organizations do not have periodic calibration and maintenance programs and are not required to have such programs except for safety related work! This is why their result still questionable.

World is getting more sophisticated and people starts demanding reliable data as well as better quality products and services. Nowdays, results of NDT are used as one of the basis for engineers in making decision on the integrity of certain critical components. Some of this equipment is worth millions of dollars and their failure may cause or be a catasthrophic event. For this reason, often there is a doubt in the engineer’s mind, “Is data acquired from NDT inspections reliable?” There were cases reported by engineers where ultrasonic measurement made on pipe gave results indicating the pipe increased in thickness instead of decreasing due to corrosion. Similar cases may also happen for other NDT methods such as radiography, eddy current etc. In the case of radiography for example, the problem may exist when reading radiation energy and current displayed on the control panel. In this case if we do not calibrate radiography instruments correctly the voltage and current reading will eventually become inaccurate and cause exposure inconsistencies. Failure to calibrate and maintain NDT equipment could pose a safety risk and a risk to the integrity and credibility of those institutions that choose to ignore this requirement.

In conclusion, to ensure reliable data is produced, to improve business processes, attract new customers, save money and to enter global markets or to win recognition from the industrial community either at the local level or international level, there is no way out except by ensuring that all equipments use in their predictive and maintenance works is properly calibrated.

Dear, nickzax.

We'd be grateful if you elaborated why you think the article contains some mistakes.
If you try and correct them first, our members will be happy to help. Is this an article of yours or did you find it somewhere else? It would be of help to know the mother language of the author.

Let me start with your own sentence.
There is no such thing as "There is mistake"; "there is a mistake." or "there are (some) mistakes." are OK. "Is there a mistake?" or "Are there any mistakes?" are OK too.

And about the first two questions ;
The first one should be;

How reliable is your data? (But some people may beg to differ whether it is "is" or "are" since they think that the word "data" is plural, so there should be "are" instead of "is". As far as I'm concerned, "is" is OK. )

As for the second one;
Do you calibrate your equipments?
Wow, if your factory has such a capability, it is awesome. But mostly it is not the case. Calibrating work is done by the labs that have been granted the required accreditation certificates by the relevant institutions (or those institutions themselves may do the job as well). So, in light of the facts I have just mentioned the question should be;
Do you have your equipments calibrated? or,
How often do you have your equipments calibrated? or,
How often do you sent your equipments for calibration?

Ok, it is now your turn. Check the whole article and mark the mistakes ( or what you regard as mistakes). Remember that our members are here for you to make a contribution
to your learning process not for your articles to correct them. The article can only be a mean to help improve your English learning, the article itself is not our concern.
