What's the differentiate b/w "Public and Grammar School" ?

In the UK, a public school is fee-paying and residential whilst a grammar school is not.

When googling, bear in mind that what a Br Eng native speaker means by 'public school' is almost the exact opposite of what an Am. Eng speaker means.
