********** NOT A TEACHER **********

Hello, Mooyong.

(1) I think that your teacher's explanation is very good.

(2) Mr. X is meek:

He is afraid to stand up for his rights.

He avoids any unpleasant encounters with others.

He turns the other cheek. That is, if you insult him, he will

not say anything.

Some people consider a meek person to be a coward.

Some people feel a meek person is a truly humble person.

Generally speaking, in most countries people say that if you are

meek, other people will "run all over you" (mistreat you and take

advantage of you). For example, if Mr. X takes a taxi, and the dishonest

driver overcharges him, he will say nothing. He is afraid of having a fight

with the dishonest driver. I think that in most societies, being meek is

considered a negative quality. Among some people, especially some

people with particular religious beliefs, being meek is the sign of a very

good person.

(3) Ms. Y is modest.

She dresses in a very simple way. Her clothes are always in good taste (that is, nothing that is "sexy").

If she has a talent in something, she never tells people: I know everything. She realizes that she does not know everything and
there are probably more talented people than she.

If she is rich, she does not live in a palace-like house and does not drive a super expensive car.

Even in food, she eats carefully and well. But she doesn't eat tons of food every day.

She becomes very embarrassed every time people praise her and tell her how smart or beautiful or talented that she is.

Thank you
