    well of the Sewage Pumping Station, cleanse them and temporarily place them at site for
    safekeeping

    Thumbs down Re: why this sentecse use them why don't use its

    submersible pumps inside the wet
    well of the Sewage Pumping Station, cleanse them - the object is 'submersible pumps (note the plural form 's'). If it was singular it would be 'it'.

    Try to quote words which are examples. Otherwise, sentences like "Why do we use them in the following sentence?" invite the response, Why do we use what?"

    As the other posters have already explained, "them" refers to "2 existing submersible pumps". Why did you think it should have read "its"?

    I don't know much about grammar I think that because

    I ----> me (people) you----> you (people) we ----> us (people)
    he,she----> she(people) they----> them (people) it---> it (object)

    I,you,we,she,he,they use for people but it use for object (Table,Book,Pen) and I think submersible pump is object, Now I know I think is wrong. So I can use them with object right. I would like to learn more about this cause if whom have website to explain this cause please give me.

    For objects, we use it ---> they --- > them.

    A submersible pump is an object, therefore:

    I have one pump. I am going to clean it.
    I have two pumps. They are dirty. I am going to clean them.
