    household or households?

For both types of household with children, a higher than average proportion were living in poverty.

Here, household should be households, am I right?

    Thanks.

    Re: household or households?

Yes, there are two types, so it should be plural.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
