    if statement

    Hi again!

Suppose we have one person telling another: If my wife could do something like this, what does it say about me?

Though the conversation is taking place at the present, he is talking about what his wife did in the past and relating it to himself. So is this okay?

Yes, it's fine. Here "could" is referring to a past capability, that of his wife.
