    in the right

The NBA star insists that he is in the right since according to international law, the company did not get his personal permission (to use his image).

What does in the right mean here? I can only guess it means the NBA star thinks he is right to do what he has done. Am I right?

in the right - Idioms - by the Free Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

It means that he thinks (or he's been advised by his lawyers) that the law is on his side on this matter.
