    Wink A sweet sentence

    Hello guys,
That sentence came into my mind some days ago:
Has someone already told you how cute you were?

    I have two questions:
    1. Shouldn't it be anyone because it's a question?
    2. Is were correct, which would mean that are is wrong?
I don't think it's the same as, "He said I was cute."
Or like, "I told you you were cute."

This means I would tend to use this version:
Has anyone already told you how cute you are?

    Cheers!

I agree, though I wouldn't use "already". "Ever" would work better.

Has anyone ever told you how cute you are?

    Re: A sweet sentence

Why do you want to use "were"? Do you want to say that she was cute in the past?

    Re: A sweet sentence

    Thank you for your replies.

    @birdeen's call:
    It's not about past.
    It's like this sentence:
I thought you were a teacher.
This sentence does not mean that the person is not a teacher anymore.
If you really want to talk about the past, you can add Simple Past elements:
I thought you were a teacher once. -> Clearly understandable that he doesn't seem to be a teacher anymore.

My thought was that I still have to use were in the sentence:
Has anyone ever told you how cute you are?

I believe we should use were if the sentence is:
Has anyone ever told you you were cute?

It seems both sentences have a different structure, that's why are is correct for sentence #1.

    Cheers!

I agree. The sentence in question is in the present perfect tense. As it's a present tense, we don't say "were" afterwards, we say "are". It's just my opinion though.
