    Re: word type

    Undoubtedly, it's a mass noun.
Semantically, it is a singular word representative of a large number of entities, which is one the criteria that a collective noun should have. However, there's another criterion that says such a noun can take a singular or plural verb or pronoun. In myopinion, nature doesn'tsatisfy the second criterion.

    -Nature is pure.
    -Nature are pure. (!!!)

    -The team is all here.
-The team are all in black.

It's not in my nature to quibble, but what sort of nature do you mean? (Sometimes it's neither, although some psychologists might argue that - in the case I've just given as an example - it's a sort of collective noun referring to a group of behaviours; but nobody would ever say 'a nature of behaviours'!)
