Hello.
I am working on some sentence as below but not sure about the tense to be taken for the second part(=it had been increasing.. )
-----
The patient experienced a pain in her jaw and it had been increasing in the past week.
-----

I want to mean;
1. First she experienced a pain in her jaw.
2. Then, after an unknown period of time, the pain started to increase, which was a week before she reported this.

I need to start the writing with "The patient experienced a pain in her jaw" and it has to be as simple as the I wrote the above.
It would be helpful if I could get any suggestions for this.
Thanks!

I have an improvement over my response in another forum.

The patient's pre-existing jaw pain had begun to intensify a week prior to her examination/appointment/visit.

Why do you need to start with it that way? It's not natural. Among other things, we'd be much more likely to say "jaw pain" than "a pain in her jaw" and in even in that order, it would be "pain in her jaw."
