Is this sentence correct?
I have been inherited this desease from my father.
Doctor: You have xxxx (name of disease).
Patient: Oh no. How did I get it?
Doctor: You inherited it from your father.
Doctor: I'm sorry. You have inherited a terrible disease.
Patient: What?! Who did I inherit it from?
Doctor: You probably inherited it from your father.
As you can see from the examples, "inherited" and "have inherited" can both be used depending on context. The nature/longevity/curable nature of the illness don't make any difference.
I would only use have when it's needed, as in 'I have lived in Spain for 3 years.'
And the overuse and overselling of perfect tense is terribly confusing to students and leads to sentences like...
'I have been inherited this disease....'
'I have been at home last night.'
'We have been grownups.'
'I have understood.' (instead of 'I understand.')
