to tackle anything = to cope with every situation

Yes, you are correct. Think about American football. Some of those players are very large. If you are not afraid to tackle anything, then you are fearless and prepared to handle whatever comes your way.

You are perfectly right, It can be used figuratively to mean: try to deal with a task or problem and in sporting sense it means: to confront an opponent with a difficult proposition.
