Not a teacher only a student
I remember doing A Level I.C.T. where we were told the difference is:
Information = Data that has been processed to be useful.
Knowledge = Application of data and information.
An example I remember was :
2, 1, 3, 2, 3, 3, 4. This is meaningless, just raw data.
However when I was told some information, that they were actually the temperature forecast in degrees celcius for my city, the data becomes meaningful (Information). If I combine the data and information, it becomes knowledge, for example I know it will be cold outside, therefore I will put on my coat.
Data: 2, 1, 3, 2, 3, 3, 4
Information: Temperature in degrees celcius for my city
Knowledge: It will be cold, therefore I should put on extra clothes.
I hope this helps, as you're doing information systems (sounds like IT to me), I think they are the definitions you are looking for.
