Hello,

I'm looking to find an explanation to the expression "cut by cut" as I'm translating an English text to Swedish. The sentence I'm translating looks like this:

"cut by cut in highest precision!"

It is sort of a slogan for a laser cutting machine and I'm trying not to lose any hidden meanings behind the expression "cut by cut". My Google searches didn't yield any understanding on my part, so I figured someone at this forum perhaps could explain it to me...

We may just as well include it in the idioms list, if it's up to standard.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer!

This could mean either gradually (similar to "bit by bit") or it could mean every cut is the highest precision. I can't tell without seeing the context.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my request, Rob Y! If you'd like to take a look at the context, here's the page reference: ipdata.se/el-m-1200.php (add http and www - the forum won't let me do it since I am too new a member...)

However, I think you have just confirmed the two meanings I deduced from "cut by cut" and I will try to incorporate them both in the Swedish translation.
