    make nothing of

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

He made nothing of his talents.

make nothing of something = don’t make use of something

He made nothing of his job.

make nothing of something = don’t cope with something

    Thanks for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V

In the first sentence, it means he didn't develop his talents. In the second it means he didn't manage to make a lot of money or become famous.
