    Question a

    Do you accept both of them?
    There isn't a train until tomorrow.
    There wasn't a sound from the room.

    "Any" would be normal in the above.
    But 'a' also appears in some writing, that's why I asked?

    Yes, you are correct.

    "Any" sounds much formal. (In my opinion.)

    'Any' is wrong in the first sentence and 'a' is better in the second.
