Not a teacher only a native.

It could be ironic in certain situations. For example if the people speaking were claiming to be psychics and what they predicted did not happen, the opposite occured, then it could be ironic.

    Eg.
Psychics - We predict it will be a glorious sunny day tomorrow.
Actual weather - Thunderstorms and floods.
    Psychics- Some psychics we were!

Or even a group if a group of people thought something was going to happen, but didn't then they might ironically say 'Some psychics we were!'

    Eg.
    Person 1 - I think Manchester United will win 3 - 0.
Person 2 - Yeah, Manchester United will easily win.
    Actual result - Manchester united lost 6 - 0.
Person 1 - Some psychics we were!

    Hope this helps.

I'm confused... Isn't the answer to GUEST2008's question just 'Yes'? In your examples, the speakers haven't claimed to be psychics; they've just said what was going to happen. When they say they're not, that's irony.

Hmmm, I think you are right, after reading my post back it is over elaborate.

In my examples I've tried to give examples of when it would be considered ironic to say 'Some psychics we were!' It could be used with irony in any situation when the outcome is different to the prediction.

    Sorry for any confusion.
