An English channel in Shanghai reported earlier on police busting prostitutes disguised as masseuses. The narrator was heard saying 'massage, we don't do anything besides massage' , evidently interpreting a frightened masseuse's Chinese words into English.
My question is: was 'besides' correctly used here? I know 'but' could have been a good choice in that context, and how about 'except'? Thank you.
