A woman thought to be ...

    Hello!

A woman thought to be the oldest in Tokyo, who would be 113, was last seen in the 1980s. (from a recent issue of IHT)

Is the “who would be 113” the second conditional?
As an example of the whole conditional sentence, I assume it to be “if she were alive, she would be 113. ”
The writer assumes she isn't alive.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello!

As a second idea of how to view the phrase, I would suggest as below.

The role of the “would” in question is probably that of hedging.
The writer wanted to make the phrase sound softer than otherwise.
Or he lacked confidence in stating the exact number of her age. Otherwise he must have used “is” or “was” instead of “would be”.

    Thanks
