Help! Translation for "principles" in the sentence

Can anyone tell me what the word "principles" means in the following sentence?

"Regal Corporation is an industry leader in almost every aspect of the energy and petrochemical business and its principles for 86 years."

    Thanks.

... and its principles - everything that petrochemical business stands for: all the related businesses and all the byproducts derived from petroleum.

so, it's absolutely wrong to understand it as "belief" or the most common definition for "principle", like "basic general truth that underlies sth"?

I think they are talking about principles in chemistry. A chemistry principle means "one of the elements that compose a substance". Chemical principles of petroleum have many different applications and thanks to those we have textiles, rubber, plastics, etc. This is how I understand principles in this context.
