Hi everybody,
I would like to know the meaning of step out into in the context below.
I looked it up but couldn't understand.
Does step out mean withdraw in this context? If so, withdraw from what? and why into after that?
Can somebody answer?
That is a song by Joss Stone.
Thank you

My mistakes will make me strong
I'm stepping out into the great unknown
I'm feeling wings though I've never flown

Step out means "If you step out on your husband, wife or usual sexual partner, you have sexual relationships with people other than them."

If you "step out into the unknown" then you take a leap of faith. You do something without really knowing what will happen.

To "step out" literally means simply to put one foot forward after standing still. If you stand on the kerb by the road, then take your first step, then you "step out" into the road.

An old definition was to have a romantic relationship with someone. It didn't necessarily involve sex, it was just a man and woman becoming more than just friends, and going out together, perhaps for a walk or afternoon tea. It's a very old-fashioned phrase.

Personally, I've never heard it used to mean "to be unfaithful" as given by the previous poster.
