Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

“…you are up to that?” “Not quite,” replied Mr. Pickwick with a smile. “Why,” said Mr. Roker, “it’s as plain as Salisbury.”

plain as Salisbury = plain as a pikestaff = plain as day

Correct - it's a play on words. You may have heard of Salisbury Plain - the site of Stonehenge.
