    pluck up one's heart

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentence?

“Why don’t you pluck up your heart and have it out?” returned Mr. Collins.

pluck up one’s heart = take one’s courage in both hands , take the plunge

    Thanks for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.

    Re: pluck up one's heart

You've got it right, Vil. I have just looked it up and then come to the same conclusion: "take one's courage". We could say it differently "screw up one's courage" and "pluck up one's courage".

I think it can mean: to rouse one’s spirit and speak out what is in one’s heart.
