    before long or after a while

    Please let me know what is the correct choice (and WHY) between "before long" and "after a while" in the sentence below.

    I'm sure Fiona will be here before long/after a while. Many thanks.

    I'm happy with "before long" but I would prefer "in a while" to "after a while".
