Why not "can simply"? the placement should be can + adverb + verb, shouldn't it?
However, under negation, the situation changes:
?!? You simply can go on with your work. (I don't think an English speaker would say this. Well, it would need a special emphasis on simply.)
You simply cannot go on with your work!
You cannot simply go on with your work.
The explanation of why this is so is not easy!
