    should have been

    Sir:
Kindly clear me the tense of the following sentence and when will "should have been" be used? What is the role of "Should" here?

1: This computer should have been repaired.

    Best Regards.

This is the passive voice of the past tense. Should means "Ought to".
1: "This computer should have been repaired." is the passive of:
2: "Someone should have repaired the computer."
    which the past tense of:
3: "Someone should repair the computer."

(This pattern applies to "could/might/would/must ... have been repaired" as well.)

There's no difference between the simple past and the present perfect in this construction. I'd call
1: "This computer should have been repaired by now" the passive present perfect, and:
2: "This computer should have been repaired yesterday" the passive simple past.
But others might disagree on this last point, and I'm open to correction.
