    Call!

    I had to call ..... sick because I wasn't well.

    What is the perposition that we shall use here as I don't have the slightest idea?

    Although we would normally ask people to try first, I think you've probably thought hard about it and really don't know so...

    I had to call in sick because I wasn't well.

    "To call in sick" is a frequently used phrase in BrE. We also say "to ring in sick", "to phone in sick".
