    Could

    Kindly clear me the concept of "could" as a Past tense of "Can" and as a "modal" also by giving atleast 02 examples in the form of senteces in both cases.

    Best Regards.

    Re: Could

    Past:

    Today it's very clear. You can see for miles. Yesterday, it was very foggy, and you could not see very far at all. {Today=can, yesterday=could}

    Where I am camping this year, I cannot get cell phone service. Last year, I camped in a state park and I could get cell phone service. {This year=can, last year=could}

    The conditional/modal is with "If."
    If he could, if you could, if I could.
    or
    I could do that IF you let me.
    He could find her IF he wanted to.
    If they could loan me the money, they would do it.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: Could

    So
    1: I could repair the computer yesterday.
    2: They could come here yesterday.

    Are correct sentences as a "Past" use of "can" as "could"?
