    in the dumps

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

“Well” blustered Mr. Baunderby, “what’s the matter? What is young Thomas in the dumps about?” (Dickens’ “Hard Times”, chapter IV)

in the dumps = in a sulky mood, sad, depressed, drooping, hipped, be blue, be crestfallen

    Thank you for your efforts.
