    fly the eagle

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

But I must not stand here, and brag all night. However you won’t mind a body bragging a little about his country on the Fourth of July. It is a fair and legitimate time to fly the eagle. (Twain’s “”Americans and the English”)

fly the eagle = (make the eagle scream - wrong!!!) = deliver a chauvinistic speech/harangue

    Thank you for your efforts.

Definitely not 'make the eagle scream'.
