Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentence?

"That was a narrow escape," said Alice a good deal frightened at the sudden change, but very glad to find herself still in existence. (Carroll’s “Allice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, chapter II)

narrow escape = hairbreadth escape = to escape by the skin of one’s teeth

enough and to spare = more than enough
