    if need be

This expansion of the investment universe aims to replicate the performance of the Index, if need be, by means of debt securities and debt claims that are not constituents of the Index or by means of derivatives.

Would you say "if need be" is in the right spot in the sentence?

    Thanks!

    Re: if need be

Offhand, I would say that "if need be" isn't needed there at all.

By the way, what is an investment universe?

I don't know, either. Perhaps someone who's into investments would know.
