Hello friends,
Is it a joke to say
I got this in the 2nd World War 2.

or is it common?
I would either say "2nd World War" or "World War 2".
In my opinion there is no need to use both 2nd and 2.

Cheers!

You are correct, it should be either "Second World War" or "WW2/World War 2". Both "second" and "two" is wrong - we have only had one Second World War! (Thank God!)

I don't think it is likely that someone was joking when they said that though, unless the context was very ususual. It's more likely that they started to say Second World War, then changed their mind half way through, and managed to confuse themselves and ended up saying both by accident.

This makes sense because it was said by an old man (who often forgets things :)) on a TV show (The Simpsons).

Cheers!

Thank God! I thought you meant they were going to do a sequel! My Dad's far too old now!

Like with Super Bowls, we use Roman numerals with World Wars.

World War II, in other words.

Are you sure he didn't sat "I got this in the second world war too"?

Yes, I'm very sure he didn't say (sat :?:) too because it makes no sense in that scene.
But feel free to watch it if you want :)
YouTube - world_war.avi
(19 seconds.)

P.S. Let me guess, on your keyboard Y is next to T, but on my keyboard Z is next to T. :)

Cheers!

Yes, Y is next to T, oops.
I watched the clip, I would say "I got this in the second world war too" was what he said.
