    Wedding Shower

    Dear teachers,

I would like to know what a "wedding shower" is.
Are there many types of showers?
    Thanks.

    Re: Wedding Shower

These 'showers' started life as an American thing, but people now use the word similarly in Br Eng. [There were other mechanisms for brides-to-be being given gifts, but there wasn't specifically a 'shower' - there was, for example the dowry (given by her parents), and the 'trousseau' or 'bottom drawer' (clothes and soft furnishings - sheets, blankets, table-linen...)...]
