computer hangs does not mean work slowly.........when it hangs, it just stops working.

Grammatically, it's 'my computer hung', though I would never say that.

I'd say 'the computer was hanging'.

Occasionally, my computer justs freezes and won't respond to any controls. That's when it hangs. I have to switch it off and reboot it.

It hasn't crashed. This to me means that a much more drastic fault has occurred and I have to take it to a specialist technician to be repaired.

I don't really see much difference between a 'hung' computer and a 'crashed' computer: either way it's time for Ctrl Alt Del !! A computer freak might be able to get out of either situation, but I just pull the plug!

I can't really see a difference betwen 'hang' and 'crash' here: either way, you have to reboot.

Since I have seen your suggestions I will use the next terms hence

hanging about ~ for working slowly

froze~ for stopped working

crashed ~ for a situation when at least the application must be either reinstalled or removed or the platform be repaired.

Also I'll try to remember that some people still uses the hanged instead of hung.
Unfortunately the hanged associates to 'to be hanged by the neck" what I've heard from a lot of movies.

Your computer hangs (or freezes) when it stops responding to any inputs (mouse, keyboard). You can see everything on the screen, but your computer does not react. It is usually a software problem.

Your system crashes when the operating system has to deal with a hardware exception that can't be handled. In Windows it results in the infamous Blue Screen of Death. It can be either software or hardware problem.

Your computer crashes when one of its hardware elements breaks down. Depending on what breaks down, the computer may stop working or it may work with regular system crashes.

But it really doesn't matter because most people use the term "crash" for all events described above. ("My computer crashed.")

Btw. I have never heard/seen "hangs/hanging about" except for "My computer hangs about five times a day." If it is working slowly, people usually say "My computer is running slow."

As I said already the hang about is a phrasal verb and means exactly what I said.

Also if a computer experienced a part failure it has been fired and not crashed.

A person could hang around as well as hang about but a computer can hang about, only.

Do we both are hanging about with this matter after I explained it pretty well?;-):-D
