    To Identify x to identifying

What is the difference between (or whcih one is correct)

It磗 the key to identify the unsub.
It磗 the key to identifying the unsub.

I heard the second sentence on an episode of a tv series.

Can anyone tell me where to find more info on the matter?

    Thanks a million!

Pity, can't give you extra information on the matter.

To my mind the matter is in the meaning: "the key to identify" means finished action, and "the key to identifying" sounds more like a process to me. Both are correct IMHO.
