Post daughters of the verb phrase

    Hi there,
Would really appreciate it if someone could explain to me what 'daughters of the verb phrase' is all about. I tried searching online but am still confused. Can you also tell me what would be the immediate daughters of the verb phrase in a sentence such as:
Jeff handed Sam the keys to his apartment with much hesitation.
    Thanks.

I'm a native English speaker (and author) and I can't answer this. You are really getting into the finer nuances of syntax, which are completely irrelevant in normal spoken - or even written - English.

    But I'm not a teacher.

    welcome to the board, Gina.

Can you give us the context in which you saw or heard of this phrase?

Re: daughters of the verb phrase

Never heard that. Don't worry about it, just someone's spin on some aspect of VPs. Ask them what they mean. The VP is 'Jeff handed Sam the keys' 'to his apartment' describes 'keys 'with much hesitation' describes how he handed them over. Daughters?? No idea.
