I have never used green-thumbed to describe someone good at gardening. I have only ever used green-fingered.

My grandmother was green-fingered and her garden was beautiful.

Pondial.
Green-fingered would sound as odd to us as green thumb sounds to you.

It means that someone is good at gardening or have talent in it.
Example: John is a green thumb, you can figure it out from his most beautiful garden in our town.

.
Example: John has a green thumb. You can figure it out from his [STRIKE]most beautiful[/STRIKE] garden, the most beautiful one in our town.

I would say "you can tell" instead of "you can figure it out."
