hi,
thanks a lot to this wonderful site.
here i have a poem
how happy is he born or taught
that serveth not another's will,
whose armour is his honest thought,
and simple truth his utmost skill!
this poem of sir henry wotton concludes like this ,and having nothing, yet hath all.
my doubt is honest thought is compared to armour.is this comparison apt?give reasons?
and again could you explain"having nothing, yet hath all"
here the meaning of 'serveth' is servent?pls clear my doubts soon.pls.......?
pls answer to all my doubts
.
1-- 'whose armour is his honest thought': honest thought, like armour, protects our independence.
2-- 'and having nothing, yet hath all': the most valuable possessions are already within us; we have all we need for a fruitful life, without acquiring outward possessions.
3-- 'serveth': the '-eth' ending is the old third person singular, for which we now use '-s'. 'He that serveth' means 'he that serves'.
