    had closed with before

"He had closed the window and put out the light, before he went to bed"

Is it possible to use Past Perfect in the first part of the sentence or it's better to use Past Simple? "He closed the window and put out the light"

    Re: had closed with before

The past simple (no capitals required) sounds more natural in that context.

(You don't need the comma, but you do need a full stop at the end.)

It really depends on context. The past perfect would be fine in the context of recounting events.

In most contexts, the simple past is enough- to use the past perfect as well as before, there would need to be a reason to emphasise the sequence of events IMO.
