    beef up

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?
The German government decided Sunday to beef up payments to the long-term unemployed by 5 euros a month.

beef up = enhance, strengthen, support (people, facilities , etc.) to expand, intensify

We need new young soldiers to beef up the army.

We can't print your article as it is; could you try to beef it up a bit?

    Thank you for your efforts.
