    It's not appropriate to address us all as 'Sir'. Your question may well be answered by one of the highly educated women we have here in the western world.

    We are all friendly, so 'Dear friends' sounds good.

    It's a good point, Rover, especially on forums where people have usernames, which can make it impossible to have any idea about a person's gender. Also, a forum is not like writing a letter and there's no need to put a salutation at all- this would be enough:
    What is the difference between this and that?
